Burr Coffee Grinders

A coffee grinder is a staple appliance found in many coffee houses that sell custom caffeine beverages. Elevate the taste and texture of the brews that you create at your coffee shop by purchasing a manual or electric burr grinder.

Manufactured Coffee Products

The degassing process that is used during the production of coffee causes the release of carbon dioxide. Many manufacturers package coffee in bags that each contains a small hole. A hole is designed to allow carbon dioxide to escape. Upon the release of all of the carbon dioxide, oxygen can infiltrate a bag of coffee. The absorption of oxygen can compromise the taste of coffee beverages. Grinding beans immediately before they will be brewed will ensure that coffee grinds retain their full flavor and aroma.

Burr Grinders

Coffee grinders contain blades or burr discs. Blade grinders cut through the outer sheath and interior parts of each coffee bean. The intense grinding process may yield a batch of coffee grinds that are inconsistent in size and texture. Coffee beans tend to be jostled around during this type of grinding process, which will provide an end user with a limited amount of control in how uniform a batch of coffee grinds will be.

A burr grinder contains two metal or ceramic plates. The plates have serrated edges that will slice through coffee beans. One plate is designed to remain immobile, and the other plate is designed to spin. As the two plates press against each other, coffee beans are stabilized. The serrated edges will precisely grind all of the beans that have been added to a grinder.

Models

A burr coffee grinder may be manually or electrically operated. A manual grinder will require an end user to hold the top of the grinder steady with one of their hands. The other hand will be responsible for turning the handle or crank that will activate the rotating burr plate.

An electric burr model can be pre-programmed to grind beans to the desired consistency. Since there are many coffee brewing products on the market, including espresso machines, French presses, and drip makers, a consumer may appreciate being able to program a grinder to prepare a batch of coffee. A grind size can be selected that will be suitable for use with a specific coffee maker model. A burr model may contain flat or conical burr plates. The placement of the plates can influence the overall quality of a coffee product.
